Bacteriophages, not only as a potentially effective substitute for chemical antibiotics but also in regard to their influence on eukaryotic cells and the reconfiguration of the intestinal microbiome, have been the primary areas of research interest for me over the past decade. I have established the local customized pipeline for metagenomics analysis of gut phageome (Shahin, K., et al., Gut Pathog 15, 39. 2023). Additionally, I examined the effects of prolonged phage utilization on the composition of the gut microbiota, metabolites, and the signaling pathways of epithelial cells. By utilizing the ability of phages to selectively target bacterial host cells, my objective is to underscore the potential of phages in the prevention of cardiometabolic diseases that are linked to the gastrointestinal microbiome.
